TODD-AO BURBANK (www.toddao.com) is the first sound facility to acquire Iosono technology, which will allow the studio to mix fea- ture films in its "3D sound" format. The format is targeted at stereo- scopic 3D movies and theme park attractions, and was developed by Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology. Iosono gear has been added to Stage 2, and Todd-AO expects to mix its first project this fall. THE WALTERS-STORYK DESIGN GROUP (www.wsdg.com) is working with Red Stick Studio Developments in Baton Rouge, LA, on a new film scoring stage that will open next February. The architectural and acoustic design company is also expanding the audio facilities at Northern Lights Post in NYC, constructing a 5.1 room that will come online before year's end. And, WSDG recently completed work on a multi-room complex for MTV in Buenos Aires. SONY PICTURES IMAGEWORKS (www.imageworks.com) in Culver City used Nvidia's Quadro processors to accelerate animation and vi- sual effects production on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.The film's spaghetti tornado scene includes elements rendered using Splat, SPI's proprietary volumetric rendering tool, which is designed to run on the Quadro GPU. Atmospheric effects rendered in Splat include dust clouds, fire, sparks and tomato sauce. PIRANHA DESIGN has par tnered with FLUID NYC (www. fluidny.com) to provide the studio and its clients with fur ther design and 3D services. Fluid specializes in editorial, original music and visual effects. Piranha was founded by graphic designer Rob Sabatini and 3D artist Gaspard Giroud, and has worked with clients that include Nike, Reebok, Microsoft, Showtime, L'Oreal, MTV and USA Networks. AZCAR TECHNOLOGIES (www.azcar.com) has acquired a control- ling interest in Burbank's MATCHFRAME VIDEO (www.matchframev- ideo.com). Matchframe is a full-service, HD facility offering workflows and finishing solutions for projects shot on film, data, Red, HD and stan- dard definition. The company's services include Avid and Final Cut Pro rentals, online, audio, telecine, visual effects and graphics, file-based technologies and digital restoration. SPARS (www.spars.com) has elected new officers for the coming year. Eric Johnson, executive producer with Blazing Music + Sound was elected president. Sherri Tantleff, director of industry outreach at Full Sail University is now secretary.
