Many of the 318 deluxe rooms and suites were Addison Mizner's architectural masterpiece, the Cloister Inn, built in 1926 with his signature Spanish Colonial/ Mediterranean style design. "The Cloister building is our statement piece when e ntering the prop- erty," said Rick Hayduk, president, Boca Raton Resort & Club. "The elegance is recognized immediately." The Geist family succeeded Mizner as owners and completed the Cloister building in the 1930s preserving Mizner's architectural dream. With views of the intercoastal waterway, the resort's tropical courtyards or gardens, the new rooms are a minimum of 290 sq. ft. and feature elegant contemporary decor, expansive bathrooms, rainfall showers, and luxuri- ous furnishings inspired by the design of the waterfront Mediterranean village. The vision for the renovation began with Richmond International of London, and the result was an investment of over $100,000 per room. "The final look is intended to be one of calming col- ors and neutral tones but with a blend of colonial charm and stylish fea- tures which combine to create unique interiors for this luxurious property in today's hotel market place," says Fiona Thompson, principal, Richmond International. Immediately upon entering the Cloister corridor, paneled moldings have been added to the walls to give proportion to the spaces. The room number, corridor light and bell push have also been re-designed into an elegant bronze finished panel that sits neatly beside each guest room doorway. In the rooms, bright and neutral colors have been chosen as the tone to com- plement the colonial influenced furnishings. From winged rattan and leather headboards to the metal-legged mahogany topped desk and expansive bathrooms with rainfall showers, the Spanish-influenced Mediterranean style pairs perfectly with the tropical courtyards and gardens at the r esort. In addi- tion, a comprehensive rebuild of the 1930s construction's plumbing and electrical was completed and enhanced WiFi added. Boca Raton Resort & Club began extensive improvements in 2013 with a refresh of its restaurants, lobby and common areas and will contin- ue with a $1.3 M renovation of the Health Club and the early winter intro- duction of Flow House Boca, featuring a dual-sided FlowRi der® wave sim- ulator, in late November.
