TRADE SHOW Gourmet O ver two days in late August, Los Angeles was even more gourmet than usual. No, there were no celebs touting their favorite foie gras or surfers snacking on seared saffron scallops, but on Sunday August 28, consumers flocked to the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills to participate in a tasting of some of the most gourmet products to market at the Los Angeles Epicurian Festival. Then, on Monday August 29, it was the trade's turn to taste and explore high-end foods, wines and spirits from over 100 Club Culinaire member-pur- veyors who are leading the charge in the epicurean realm, both on- and off-premise, at the third annual Boutique Trade Show. THE TASTING PANEL stopped by to sip, savor and sample the offerings on hand, and we were in good company: Over 700 hospitality industry attendees came through to get tastes of everything from everything from breads and spreads to cocktails and cuisine. Here's a selection of some of our favorites. Get-Together photos by Maria Schriber We've all seen them: Colorless, wilted-looking veggies that have been frozen and attempted to be brought back to life by any culinary means neces- sary. Fooling even the most trained of palates at the Trade Show were the offerings from White Toque Inc., an online and in-person retail outlet that specializes in premium frozen foods sourced from all over Europe. As Corporate Chef Didier Hevin handed us a bite-size duck confit sandwich, he promised, "You wouldn't know these are frozen," and we couldn't agree more. october 201 1 / the tasting panel / 105
