L ights fl ash. Music pounds. Bodies move to the beat. It might sound like a typical Hollywood night out, but as the name suggests, A-Bun-Dance is a party with a deeper meaning. This party was the brainchild of Christopher David Jackson, who co- creates each event with a core team of facilitators. "I had a history of doing a lot of events in Hollywood, more commercial mainstream type stuff, and then I'd kind of gotten out of it and gone down more of a spiritual path," Jackson recalls. He'd gone on to study hypnotherapy for a few years, so when a friend urged him to get back into event production, he brought his new way of thinking with him. Jackson created A-Bun-Dance to help right a wrong he sees in the world. "I believe that the paradigm we're living in is rooted in fear and scarcity consciousness, and a big part of that ties into how people express themselves, and the levels of guilt and shame we carry." Through the bimonthly dance events, Jackson offers partygoers immersive transformational experiences where they can break free from negative emotions and manifest abundance. "People from all walks of life come together and they're really giving to each other, not just of things, but of themselves." An A-Bun-Dance party attracts about 800 people, mostly in their twenties to forties, but with a few in their sixties and seventies. It has the atmosphere of a bizarre carnival, reminiscent of Burning Man. According to Jackson, "A typical event will have four to fi ve musical acts, with lots of artisan vendors and organic treats and foods, plus live painting. We'll have anywhere from 30 to 50 cirque performers, from one of the world's most famous mermaids to aerial acrobats, fi re spinners, dance troupes and sexy clowns." Partygoers can quench their thirst with intoxicating beverages, but there are other options; on-site vendors sell coconut water and kombucha. Events usually take place on Saturday nights in high-end mainstream Hollywood nightclubs, and the tentative date for the next party is February 7.
