Resources and Opportunities NBC Learn K-12 donates licenses to all Delaware High Schools for the 2011-2012 school year NBC Learn, the educational arm 75% of kids are not getting enough physical exercise One third of American children are overweight. The average amount spent on physical education per school is only $764 a year. Physical education budgets keep getting slashed and for the first time in our nation's history chil- dren are facing a shorter lifespan than their parents. Clearly, everyone, from the First Lady to companies to educators, must help augment these budget shortfalls and do their part to improve the health and fitness of our young people. To that end, Henkel (makers of Dial, Right Guard, Purex, and Loctite) is teaming up with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (a non-profit founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation) to launch the Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit Program giving schools nationwide the opportunity to win their share of $30,000 to improve the health/ fitness equipment, resources, and services available at their school. There are no strings attached, no products to sell or buy plus it's simple and costs schools nothing. Schools that answer the ques- tion, "What would your school do with $10,000 to improve youth fitness?" on by September 30 will be entered to win. The three winning schools will be determined by a public voting process that encourages schools, communities, and families to rally support for their school to improve youth fitness and one deserving ele- mentary school, middle school, and high school will be rewarded $10,000 each to turn their health / fitness dreams into reality.
