JUNE/JULY 2000 B M&T reported on the grand opening of Disneyland's newest theme park, California Adventure. We also profiled Catherine Boyd (Valley Forge CVB) in our "Pacesetters" department, Donnell Thompson (Thompson Hospitality) in our "BM&T's Q & A" column, Gloria Bryant (the Writing Company) in "Vendor Spotlight," Michael Washington in "Applause," and David Saunders (Constituency for Africa) in "Newsmakers." The cover story for June/July was "Big Fish – Small Pond/2nd Tier Cities," and several features showcased facilities – "Resort Review" (a roundup of popular meeting resorts) and "Grand Venues For Great Events." Others appearing in this issue included Theda Jackson, Nadine Felix, Connie Kinnard, Wanda Jones, Gerry Fernandez, Carroll Armstrong and Margarethia Ellis. During two thousand, Black Meeting & Tourism took a group to Senegal and The Gambia on their first "Homecoming Heritage Tour." FEBRUARY/MARCH 2001 B lack Meetings & Tourism announced the launch of "Globetrotting," its new TV travel show, scheduled to begin shoot- ing later that year. We also reported on the newly formed RLJ Development, LLC, founded by Robert Johnson (BET), who purchased seven Homewood Suites from Hilton Hotels Corporation for $95 million. Our cover story for February was "Black History Month Salute: An Opportunity to Celebrate the Best in All of Us." In addition to a "Florida Special Adverti- sing Section," we also ran "Come Along and Ride On a Fantastic 'Voyager,'" one of the world's largest cruise ships, which reported on the national Professionals Network of 700 cruisers on their annual Leadership Summit at Sea held in 2000. Dawn Seay (Washington, DC Conven-tion Center) was profiled in our "Applause" department, Webster Guillory (NOBCO) in our "Meeting Planner Profile," and William Bell (St. Maarten Tourist Office) in "Pacesetters." Also included in the February issue were Angela Lopez, Al Tucker, Charles Wright, William Tedford, Madeleine Moore, T.D. Jakes, Les Brown, George Fraser, Dorothy Height, Roy Jay, Inez Kaiser, Jacquelyn Irby, Romona Riscoe, Bruce Crawley and Gail Moaney. Two thousand and one was also the year of the infamous terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, which nearly brought trav- el to, from and within the U.S. to a virtual halt. DECEMBER 2001/JANUARY 2002 T he cover story for this issue was "CVB Heads Give Their Perspective on 2002 and Beyond." In which among other things, they offered their words of wisdom to allay any lingering fears about traveling in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Another fea- ture entitled "Cincin-nati: A Work-Towards- Progress?" examined the controversy sur- rounding two separate incidents involving White Cincinnati police officers shooting and killing Black suspects, and the efforts of then Mayor Charlie Luken to restore peace and tranquility after months of unrest and rioting. William Adams (Freedom Forum Newseum) was profiled in "Pacesetters," Jim Montgomery (Aliza's Cookies) in "Vendor Spotlight," "Armanda's Travel Tips" reported on her experience at Wyndham Rose Hall Resort & Country Club in Jamaica, and "Meeting in the Caribbean" gave the skinny on offshore conferences, innovative meetings and posh incentive rewards amid the fragrant spray of a tropical paradise. Also appearing in the issue were Rejendra Merien (Curacao Convention Bureau), Luana Wheatly (Marti Public Relations), Bernadette Davis (St. Martin Office of Tourism), Larry Alexander (Metro Detroit CVB), Melvin Tennant (Charlotte CVB), Don Peebles (Royal Palm Crown Plaza Resort), Michael Gunn (Greater Birmingham CVB), Kevin Owens (Dallas CVB), and Ronnie Burt (Baltimore Area CVB). Travel Professionals of Color (TPOC) founded in Denver by Charlotte Haymore and Betty Jones. OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2003 B M&T reported on the announcement that Leslie Doggett was appointed president/CEO of the Baltimore Area CVB. The October/November issue also fea- tured a story on the 20th anniversary of the NCBMP entitled "20 Years Staying The ROMONA RISCOE ARDENA FLEMING VINCENT VANDERPOOL WALLACE LARRY ALEXANDER DIANE (D.J.) JOHNSON ROBERT JOHNS ANDY INGRAHAM WANDA COLLIER WILSON
