Healthcare Safetynet Committee Hosts Second Annual From Illness to WEllness Health Fair the Healthcare Safetynet Committee hosted its second annual From Illness to WEllness Health Fair. Spearheaded by the committee's national co-chair, Cathy Lilly, the event offered information and a number of services to members who attended the free fair. A member could take a loop around one T side of the room and pick up information about the Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, get an eye exam from the Ryan/Chelsea- Clinton Community Health Center, and have ear seeds placed inside the ear from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Heading in the other direction, members could have a free chiropractic consultation, receive a short reflexology session and get a card for a free week of yoga classes. In a separate room, members attended informational seminars. Topics covered included qualifying for SAG-Producers Pension and Health, health care options available to performers, nutrition secrets and the effects of addiction and meditation for actors. These seminars were well attended and most of the day's speakers remained at the health fair to speak to members one-on-one. A new addition to this year's health fair was the N.Y. Blood Center's Bloodmobile, which was parked outside of 360 Madison. SAG member Bill Rapp helped coordinate the blood drive for all members of the performing arts, as he has done many times in the past. The day's big finale was Dr. Loren Fishman's seminar Cure Back Pain with Yoga, and Sciatica Solutions. Members filed back into the member lounge, which was transformed into a seminar space, to learn more about back pain and ways Dr. Fishman recommends yoga can assist with pain management. Lilly was pleased with the day's events and the committee's work, saying, "May we give a standing ovation to all who freely gave their time and expertise to this successful New York region health fair. Heartfelt thanks especially to our Manager of Member Outreach Bernadine Goldberg and volunteer blood drive coordinator Bill Rapp, as they were crucial to the creation and implementation of this multitiered project. Personally, I am grateful to continue to be involved in our union's efforts to help our members follow their dreams and avoid pitfalls of the episodic nature of the acting biz. Best health to us all as we follow our dreams."
