SAG'S NATIONAL SAGINDIE COMMITTEE, SAGINDIE HOST L.A. FILM FEST EVENTS Guild of America, West teamed up to celebrate the films and performances of the Los Angeles Film Festival. The June 23 event was hosted by actors F Erika Christensen (Traffic, Parenthood), and writers Diablo Cody (United States of Tara, Juno) and Howard A. Rodman (Savage Grace, August). The celebration was held at J Lounge in downtown Los Angeles, and more than 200 filmmakers, VIPs and guests enjoyed meeting the hosts. A number of SAG Board and committee members were in attendance, plus Darrien Michele Gipson, national director of SAGIndie, and Pamela Greenwalt, SAG's communications executive director. Representing WGAW was its independent film executive, Kay Schaber Wolfe. Also on June 23, SAG's Affirmative Action and Diversity department co- sponsored a screening of Boyz n the Hood to celebrate the influential film's 20th anniversary. "It was a great, young spontaneous cool picture for its time and the movie still has an emotional resonance," Singleton said. The film earned Singleton the honor of being the youngest person ever nominated for a Best Director Academy Award, and the first African American. Attending from SAG were Ellen Huang, Affirmative Action & Diversity senior manager and Yuisa Gimeno, diversity assistant manager. SAG FOUNDATION HOSTS PANEL OF CASTING DIRECTORS S AG Foundation LifeRaſt Live Stream hosted another hit "business of acting" event with some of the industry's most respected casting directors on Tuesday, July 19. CSA President Pam Dixon (Green Lantern, Barney's Version), CSA Vice President Jason Wood (Quinceañera, Samantha Who?), Heidi Levitt (Sympathy for Delicious, Wall Street), and Robert Ulrich (Glee, Nip/Tuck) delved into a wealth of member- empowering information around the "dos and don'ts of casting." In addition, SAG members were able to clarify issues for themselves on key elements such as actor reels and headshots, the difference between auditioning for a feature film and television, and acceptable etiquette for starting over in an audition. SAG.org MEET THE CANDIDATES EVENING SAG HOLLYWOOD DIVISION ELECTIONS Wednesday, September 7, 2011 (6-9 p.m.) Screen Actors Guild Headquarters Promenade, 5757 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036 Come meet and speak with candidates running for office in the 2011 SAG Hollywood Division elections. Ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters of the Hollywood Division on August 23 and must be returned to the assigned post office box no later than September 22 at 6:30 a.m (PDT). Parking will be validated. The event is only open to paid-up SAG members in good standing affiliated with the Hollywood Division. Unfortunately, no guests allowed. Parents/ guardians of young performers under 18 years old are welcome. PLEASE BRING YOUR SAG MEMBERSHIP CARD FOR ADMITTANCE (paid thru Oct. 31, 2011). No RSVP necessary. All bags larger than 14 inches in any dimension (i.e. backpacks, suitcases, beach bags, etc.) will be prohibited from entry into the meeting. No pets or animals, with the exception of service animals in service.
