The facility handled editorial conforming and color grading. The latter included applying the finishing touch to an on-screen world that undergoes a gradual transition from black & white to color. Based on Lois Lowry's bestseller, The Giver cen- ters on a boy, Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), who comes to question the colorless, utopian community he has grown up in after learning about the "real" world from an elderly man (Jeff Bridges). The reawaken- ing of the boy's memories and emotions is reflected in his growing ability to see in color. Cinematographer Ross Emery, ACS, captured principal photography with Arri Alexa cameras, while certain second unit and spe- cialty scenes were shot with Red Epic, 35mm and 16mm cameras. The film cam- eras were used primarily for memory flash- back sequenc- es (rendered in vibrant color). Archival ma- terial, mostly originating on HD video, was also used in flashbacks. Finishing editor Allie Ames con- formed all this disparate source material into a common timeline in preparation for color grading. She also incor- porated more than 700 VFX shots from Method Studios, Mr. X and other vendors. The studio's 4K pipeline employs Flame for finishing. POSTINGS INTERVIEW AND SHADOW MIAMI — 2C Media (www.2c.tv) recently partnered with TNT to create two :30 promos designed to excite audiences about the August premier of the new scripted drama, Legends. The Interview and Shadow promos feature star Sean Bean, who portrays CIA agent Martin Odum, who has the ability to transform himself into a different person for each unique job. Produced by TNT, Interview is a shoot-based spot in which the agent answers an interrogator's questions. To create this promo, TNT provided 2C with footage comprised of tight and mid-shots directed by senior CD John Jamilikowski. The 2C team then went to work identifying the most compelling moments and best takes that — when crafted together in such a close range setting — would deliver a truly gripping spot. Shadow, on the other hand, is a clip-based spot voiced by star Ali Larter. In this promo, the sound design was equally important to the visual editing, as it needed to match the original soundtrack. As the spot progresses, so does the pacing of the clips and the level of action and intensity. 2C editor/producer Spencer Condon cut the promos using Apple's Final Cut Pro.
