66  /  the tasting panel  /  august 2014 I n a field as dynamic as the brewing industry, a company who rests on its laurels effectively signs its own death warrant. But HEINEKEN refuses to fall asleep at the wheel—they understand the importance of staying relevant and ahead of their competi- tors. The HEINEKEN USA and Global Innovation Team focus on creating breakthroughs that solve problems and minimize inefficiencies, and for the past four years, they have tackled the difficult issue of how to reduce pressure's margin of error in draught- systems. Their solution: BrewLock. An alternative to the standard keg, BrewLock utilizes normal atmospheric air to pull beer to the tap without the use of other gas and regulator systems. It consists of an outer, solid container and an inner, flexible container, which holds the beer; air is forced in between these compart- ments, and beer is pushed out of the keg and to the tap. A Revised Draught HEINEKEN REINVENTS HOW BEER IS SERVED WITH ITS BREWLOCK SYSTEM by Emily Coleman BrewLock being debuted at HEINEKEN USA's National Distributor Conference.
