tools I used was a morph plug-in from Prosoniq [now Zynaptiq]," says Norris. "From there, I used Serato's Pitch n' Time Pro to aid in perfectly matching up the different ele- ments. Still, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into editing and mixing the sounds." In contrast, the vocal treatment Norris created for Electro in The Amazing Spider- Man 2 required a lot of processing. "It had to sound interesting, cool, and sometimes scary while still retaining intelligibility," explains Norris. The vocal treatment included Sera- to's Pitch n' Time Pro, used in AudioSuite, to lower the pitch by 5 percent, 10 percent, or 15 percent, depending on the mood of the character. Norris also used amplitude modu- lation in Waves MondoMod, changing the depth of the modulation on a syllable-by- syllable basis. He then used a subharmonic synthesizer plug-in called Lowender by ReFuse Software, to synthesize low frequen- cies an octave or two below the vocal track. "We actually had Jamie Foxx completely re- voice every single Electro line. Processing production dialogue rarely works well because there's so much background noise," says Norris. The final element in Electro's vocal treatment was the addition of an elec- tric "aura." To make the voice and the electric sound happen together, Norris used the Waves Morphoder plug-in. "We used Electro's voice as the modulator and an electric static sound as the carrier. Basically, I was using his voice to trigger the electric static sound, so the elec- tricity followed the envelope of his voice," explains Norris. With the exception of pitch shifting, Norris decided to keep the vocal treatment live because, he says, they wanted to finalize the vocal processing on the mixing stage since it can sound quite different when The voice of Spider-Man's nemesis Electro received considerable processing.
