Dolby's PRM outperforms CRTs S AN FRANCISCO — Late last year, Dolby Laboratories (www.dolby. com) updated its Profes- sional Reference Monitor. The new 42-inch PRM- 4220 offers the same accuracy and Grade 1 performance as the com- pany's PRM-4200, but introduces several new hardware features, includ- ing HDMI 1.4 and Display Port 1.1 interfaces. The LCD-based unit offers a more ergonomic design and a slim- mer profile, helping in installations where space is limited. Other improvements include an almost one-third weight reduction over the previous design. The monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. Dolby claims the PRM-4220 outperforms CRT monitors in criti- cal viewing applications, delivering accurate color with true blacks, high dark detail, high contrast, and wide dynamic range. The moni- tor supports today's 10-bit video formats, as well as emerging 12-bit formats without dithering or downscaling of the color gamut. It also supports high frame rates of 48- and 60fps.
