The compact and stylish unit fea- tures up to eight 6TB 7,200rpm HDDs from Seagate to offer 48TBs of storage in a 1RU footprint. Thanks to Thunderbolt 2, the 8big Rack delivers ample bandwidth to support 10-bit, 4K footage. Users can work directly from RAW files in FCP or Premiere and get maximum quality from footage while see- ing edits in realtime. The 8big Rack also features data and component redundancy to eliminate downtime in the event of hardware failure. Fans, disks and PSU are fully redundant, hot swappable and user-ser- viceable. The LaCie 8big Rack also includes hardware RAID 5/6 for failure-proof data security that doesn't compromise transfer speeds. The unit's cooling system is designed to prolong component life. It features three thermoregulated fans to drive airflow. Air flows above and between the two rows of disks, from front to back, to conduct heat away from sensitive components. LaCie is offering the 8big Rack in four-disk (12TB) and eight-disk (24TB and 48TB) configurations. G-Technology expands Evolution Series of storage solutions C ULVER CITY, CA — G-Technology (www.g-technology. com), which delivers storage solutions for audio/video production, photography and the creative professional mar- ket, is expanding its Evolution Series with the addition of the G-Drive ev SSD and the 500GB G-Drive ev external drive modules. The Evolution Series is a flexible ecosystem of G-Dock ev docking stations and interchangeable and expandable G-Drive ev external drive modules with USB 3.0 that make transferring, editing and distributing content more efficient, scalable and reliable. Collectively, the G-Dock ev with G-Drive ev external drive modules help streamline 2K/4K video, photography and other digital content workflows. The design was intended to be flexible to allow for various storage system configurations to meet demanding digital content workflow and data manage- ment needs. As capacity or performance needs grow, simply expand and scale by using more high-capacity, high-perfor- mance external hard drive modules with the G-Dock ev dock- ing station to store separate projects, shuttle dailies or prox- ies, or deliver final work to clients. For maximum flexibility, the new G-Drive ev SSD as well as the 1TB and 500GB G-Drive ev modules can be used with the currently shipping G-Dock ev with Thunderbolt. The 512GB G-Drive ev SSD is now available for a MSRP of $499.95. The 500GB G-Drive ev is now available for a MSRP of $99.95. Harmonic offers MediaGrid for video workflows S AN JOSE, CA — Harmonic ( introduced MediaGrid, designed specifically for video workflows, providing the performance of a SAN with the simplicity of NAS. MediaGrid is intended for applications requiring shared, realtime storage, such as edit-in-place, collaborative editing, transcod- ing, video-on-demand (VOD), and over-the-top (OTT) adaptive bit-rate stream- ing. MediaGrid is scale-out storage, enabling organizations to start small and then seamlessly scale to petabytes of capacity and tens of gigabytes per sec- ond of throughput. Built for 24/7 operations, MediaGrid delivers high perfor- mance as a result of Harmonic's file system software, which enables parallel access across many storage nodes and network connections. Front Porch Digital manages metadata with Distill L AFAYETTE, CO — Front Porch Digital (, a content stor- age management (CSM) solutions company, announced the release of Dis- till, a new solution that, through the four steps of capture, process, manage, and retrieve, is intended to manage almost any metadata created at any stage of the content lifecycle. Distill allows media professionals to work with the tools they prefer while ensuring that users enterprise-wide and beyond can leverage critical data wherever and whenever they need it. The central storage and accessibility of Distill data also reduces the need for data movement or errors in data transpo- sition, as direct access can be provided to the source of critical production notes and commentary along with the media. The system leverages new tech- nology from Stretchr, closely integrated with the Front Porch Lynx cloud-based CSM service.
