TRAVIS HASSE’S ORIGINAL APPLE PIE LIQUEUR: A Slice of Nice Why we lique Travis Hasse’s Original Apple Pie Liqueur: Creator Hasse is a bar owner of Wisconsin’s Missouri Tavern, and although he knows a thing or two about the spirits business, it was his father who handed down the recipe. A pie liqueur is a wonderful thing—especially when it tastes like the all-American real deal. This is a mixable treat, a pastry/bar chef’s imagination can fly from chocolate creams to bourbon to bring out its authentic fl avors. Fall in love with: The true-to-pie-fi ll- ing core of baked apples and cinna- mon teases the nose, and it’s just as tasty. Drink Pie Company Our hosts at Lawry’s The Prime Rib/Beverly Hills were Beverage Director Jessica Ho≠ er and General Manager Todd Johnson. GALLIANO RISTRETTO: Italians Know Espresso Why we lique Galliano Ristretto: This is not a coffee liqueur, but an espresso liqueur made from robusta beans from Kenya and India, combined with arabica beans from Brazil and Colombia. The secret fi ve-phase production—from maceration to pressing and aging—gives the product its intense color and fl avor. Fall in love with: The deep, bitter espresso nose and the sweet chocolate undertones are layered and voluptuous. Lucas Bols USA Inc. Los Angeles mixologist Marcos Tello represented Ristretto at our event. AGAVERO: Rumored to be an Aphrodisiac Why we lique Agavero: The use of agave nectar in this 64-proof, hand-made 100% blue agave reposado tequila– based liqueur is a nod to natural ingredients that don’t spike the sugar levels in your body. Infused with dami- ana, the aromatics may tend towards chamomile, but this South American fl ower has long been cited for its relaxing and even libido- stimulating qualities. An Agavero silver tequila–infused orange liqueur was introduced last fall, as clean and pretty Agavero introduced its orange liqueur in 2010. as its original iteration, originally created in 1857. Fall in love with: Agavero is as pleasant and easy-drinking as it is rich and spicy. The agave base is seductive enough, but as a liqueur, with lime and pepper notes as a zingy backdrop, it’s downright sexy. Proximo Spirits 90 / the tasting panel / june 201 1
