These are three of the words that come to mind when we think of the legacy of Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky here in the TASTING PANEL offices. From its heritage of fine whisky-making dating back to 1886 to maintaining its status as one of the few entirely family-owned and -operated distilleries in Scotland, Glenfiddich is as iconic as spirits brands come. But that doesn't mean this storied brand is afraid of mixing things up in new ways: Over the years, we've seen bartenders across the country come up with new and innovative ways to present this classic single malt to a new and growing whisky-loving audience. That's why THE TASTING PANEL is proud to team up with Glenfiddich's all-star team of Brand Ambassadors to seek out the coolest, most interesting and out-of- the-box ways today's industry is serving up this kindred spirit. Welcome to Kindred Spirit, a campaign that will showcase, throughout 2014, the ways in which you, the talented TASTING PANEL readers, are rethinking the classic dram –with nary a shaker tin in sight. "It's not necessarily a cocktail," explains Glenfiddich West Coast Brand Ambassador Mitch Bechard. "With Kindred Spirit the Serve, what we are looking for is about creating something that is going to enhance the flavors of Glenfiddich. For example, the 12 Year Old has nice pear and vanilla characteristics, so we'd be looking for something like an ice cube infused with pear and vanilla to play off those flavors, so that as the cube melts, those flavors will be highlighted even more."
