DFT unveils HDR film scanner D ARMSTADT, GERMANY — Digital Film Technology Gmbh (www.dft-film.com) recently introduced a new film scanner, the Scanity HDR, which helps content owners looking for a scanner that's able to handle a range of problematic and historically-aged film issues. It facilitates the ingest of difficult dense black & white materials at realtime speeds using DFT's new proprietary, patented, triple-exposure technology. Scanity HDR serves a variety of film scanning applications including: film archive scanning for mass digitization; EDL/conform scanning; low resolution browsing for archive and restoration; and 4K UHD ready and digital intermediate scanning. DFT demonstrated the Scanity HDR with its new cosmetic black-look finish and detailing. It features a number of advantages, including tri- ple exposure functional- ity, which is executed once in realtime 2K or at up to 15fps in 4K. This means that instead of slowing down, the speed remains constant, creating significant time and cost benefits. Scanity HDR can be fitted with DFT's optional pro- prietary wet-gate technology, which fills surface defi- ciencies with envi- ronmentally-safe fluid at the point of scan. The production model will ship later in the summer and will include a number of additional new features. EVS offers speed with new XS server L IÈGE, BELGIUM — EVS (www.evs.com) has introduced its new XS server, designed specifi - cally for applications in need of speed and flexibility in studio ingest and fast turnaround productions. Its multi-format capability and channel configuration mode address various types of studio and mobile production operations. The new server is available in 4RU and 6RU versions. The 4RU server provides a full open configuration mode. Features such as multiviewer capability and 1080p support can be added. The 6RU server model is designed to meet demanding studio ingest and production require - ments. It offers 12-channel ingest capabilities based on the new TwinRec streaming mode, as well as 4K and 1080p support. Dual media sharing network capabilities — including 10Gbit Eth - ernet — make for faster media exchange within connected production and post environments. The new XS supports HD-SDI for instant control, and all common codecs and wrappers, including XDCam, DVCPro, AVC-Intra and ProRes, ensuring seamless integration into existing infrastructures. Up to 96 audio tracks can also be supported. EVS expects to deliver its XS pro - duction server in the second quarter of 2014.
