A consumer-friendly guide to environmentally and socially responsible practices, it shows how sustainability influ- ences California vintners and growers throughout the year as they grow and make wines. The book was written by Janet Fletcher and photographed by George Rose, both award- winning journalists. Fifteen vintners and growers are profiled, a sampling of the thousands who have participated in education, self-assessment and certification programs by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance and other state sustainability organiza- tions that represent more than three-quarters of California's wine production and wine grape acreage. The 256-page book is $40 and available for purchase at www.discovercaliforniawines. com/downtoearth. The 19th Annual Vineyard Economics Seminar Announces Program T he 19th Annual Vineyard Economics Seminar has announced its program, which will feature a dynamic line-up of wine and agricul- ture leaders including Karen Ross, California State Food and Agriculture Secretary. "Our Vineyard Economics Seminar is designed to be educational, informative and of immediate value. After meeting other wine business leaders and learning from so many experts, attendees will gain ideas and information of practical use, essential for grape growers, as well as the financial and legal sectors of the wine trade," said Kathy Archer, Wine Industry Symposium Group President. Event registra- tion is now open at www. WineSymposium.com. From exceptional grapes come exceptional wines. This is the principle that guides our winemaker in a quest that spans Sonoma Valley to the South Coast. Along the way, longstanding relationships with artisan growers ensure access to grapes worthy of the Overlook label. Our chardonnay consistently garners top scores, and our newly released pinot noir is sure to earn equal respect. Overlook.
