In my 20-plus years working for Post, I've had the opportunity to speak with literally hundreds of creative professionals. They all love to talk about their work, but there's one question that really seems to draw an enthusiastic response: "How did you get your start in post production?" Every response is different, yet all seem to stem from underlying interests in music, television, film, special effects, or photography. Sometimes it dates back to early childhood interests: Memorable films or TV shows, building with Lego, creating stop-motion shorts with Star Wars figures, or recording sound effects with a por- table cassette recorder. So many in this field can relate to these concepts and come from similar backgrounds. This month, we asked post pros from throughout the industry, how they got their start? Again, each responded with enthusiasm in having the opportu- nity to share their personal stories. Here, in their own words, a handful of sound designers, mixers, VFX artists, colorists and supervisors reflect on their career paths, early interests and inspiration. And be sure to visit our Website — postmagazine.com — where we'll post even more first-hand accounts on careers in post production. Vincent Cirelli likes Luma Pictures' "nothing- is-impossible" attitude. The studio is known for its feature VFX work. Getting Started Creatives discuss their paths to careers in post production.
