48 / the tasting panel / february 2014 NORTH AMERICAN WHISKIES Calling Canada by Ben Weinberg W iser's Whisky, the number-one Canadian whisky in Canada, has been built on an uncompromising commitment to quality. This philosophy is now being extended to the U.S. market by Pernod Ricard USA under the name J. P. Wiser's. "Wiser's is the number-two overall spirits seller in Canada," says Paul Di Vito, Pernod Ricard USA's Vice President, Category Marketing, Irish & North American Whiskey. "In 2012, we exercised our option to pump up U.S. operations which, along with other iconic brands such as Lot No. 40 and Pike Creek, has illed the biggest remaining hole in our stellar portfolio." The Wiser's brand is owned by Corby Distilleries Limited, one of Canada's largest spirit distillers and manufacturers, which in turn is controlled by Pernod Ricard. Sales top 750,000 cases per year, with J.P Wiser's Rye, J. P. Wiser's Spiced, J. P. Wiser's Deluxe, and J. P. Wiser's 18 Year Old all now available in the U.S. J. P.
