Everyone is busy these days multi-tasking. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself during your leisure time. There’s a lot to do, so lets get to gettin’. Check this out. WHAT’S ON NBC The Event – Blair Underwood stars as Elias Martinez, the President of the United States in this primetime NBC sci-fi drama. The Event is an exciting, dynamic conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, The Class), an everyman who inves- tigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer, Disturbia), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history. Also stars Lisa Vidal. The Event airs at 9 p.m., Mondays on NBC. UnderCovers – This show has gotten a lot of buzz behind it, largely because it’s helmed by J.J. Abrams, but mostly because it has two Black actors in lead roles in a drama, a rarity on primetime network television. Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Rawstar as married secret agents Steven and Samantha Bloom in this J.J. Abrams drama. The Blooms, who left the spy business after they got married in order to run a catering business, are pulled back into the spy game by CIA bigwig Carlton Shaw, played by Gerald McRaney. The show, which will have the Bloom’s solving cases all over the world, is fast-paced, action-packed and incredibly sexy. Undercovers airs at 8 p.m., Wednesdays on NBC. ART EXHIBIT OPENINGS Crealdé School of Art has a new exhibit, The Art of Hope: A Regional Juried Exhibition Commemorat- ing the First African-American U.S. President, Barack Obama. The two-venue exhibition will be shown at the Alice and William Jenkins Gallery and the Hannibal Square Heritage Center’s Visiting Exhibition Gallery in Winter Park, FL. It will reflect the social and global significance of the election of the first African-American U.S. President. This exhibition will feature the two- and three-dimensional works of 32 visual artists from all ages and mediums, repre- senting the eastern United States. The exhibition El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote To You About Africa, is currently on display at the Royal Ontario Museumin Toronto, Canada. It is a 40-year career retrospective of the Ghanaian artist’s work. El Anatsui’s work will be touring North America over the next three years. The Art of Kahlil Gibran will make its Jepson Center debut in the Varnedoe and Levitt Galleries. This collection of draw- ings, watercolors, and paintings spans his career – with works from his first exhibition at photographer Frederick Holland Day’s studio in Boston in 1904 to art created during the last years of his life. From Sept. 29-Jan. 23, 2011 at Telfair’s Jepson Center, 207 W. York St, Savannah, Ga. The Art of Kahlil Gibran Book Launch takes place Oct. 28. It will celebrate the release of the new book, The Art of Kahlil Gibran. The 72-page, hard-cover book documents the Telfair’s substantial holdings of Gibran’s work. For information: (912) 232-1177 LOTS OF ‘LOVE’ Some gospel artists talk the talk, but Israel Houghton walks the walk. He’s the real deal. His music is unlike any other artist’s, which sets him apart from his colleagues. The Grammy-winning artist/composer/producer has released yet another musical prize called Love God, Love People. It’s an exceptional piece of music that was recorded at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios.
