28 / the tasting panel / august 2009 O n July 4, a Beverly Hills mansion was lit up by more than fireworks when some of Hollywood's megawatt celebrities came together to celebrate our nation's Independence Day at Sean "Diddy" Combs's famed White Party. This annual party, hosted for the first time in Los Ange- les rather than the Hamptons, was spon- sored by Georges Duboeuf, who poured their celebrated Mâcon-Villages and Pouilly- Fuissé, the perfect white wines to serve to revelers decked out in summer's hottest shade: white. The event, which drew celebrities like Demi Moore, Ahston Kutcher, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian, was the first in a series of 45 "Sip Into Summer Whites" par- ties that will be hosted by Georges Duboeuf in 15 markets throughout July and August. In addition to white parties at restaurants and retailers nationwide, Georges Duboeuf hopes to educate consumers on classic Mâ- connais white wines, whose popularity has contributed to Georges Duboeuf being the number-one French wine brand in the U.S. Nicolas Ronteix, Director of the French Wine Portfolio for W. J. Deutsch, spent time discussing the Mâconnais with entertain- ment mogul Diddy. "These wines are about style and substance, and at a party this styl- ish, these great wines are a perfect fit," he explained.
