The Beautiful Season for a Gamay Revolution JOLIE SAISON GAMAY PUTS A NEW SPIN ON BEAUJOLAIS'S SIGNATURE GRAPE by Jonathan Cristaldi PHOTO: JOE BROOKS G Jolie Saison is a new varietally-labeled Gamay wine from France, the product of a partnership among Master Sommelier George Miliotes, Les Vins Georges Duboeuf and Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits. amay, the grape that characterizes the wines from Beaujolais, has a lot to offer to U.S. consumers who may not realize its great potential. With the aim of elevating Gamay in the mindset of the U.S. consumer, George Miliotes and the Duboeuf and Deutsch families have joined forces to launch a new wine in the U.S., a premium blend of Gamay called Jolie Saison. George Miliotes, a Master Sommelier who is Director of Beverage and Hospitality for Seasons 52 and The Capital Grille, is one of the biggest champions of Gamay in America, while Georges Duboeuf is a world-famous maker and négociant of premium Beaujolais and Maconnais wines. Preconceived notions about the wines of Beaujolais tend to overshadow the real star of the region—the Gamay grape. "It is a shame, because it is one of the great grapes in the world," says Miliotes. "I am constantly searching the world for the next big grape for the Seasons 52 wine list, and I really truly think that I am onto something," he remarks in a video post on his active Twitter feed. He hopes to make Gamay that next big grape with a new wine called Jolie Saison, a collaboration between Seasons 52, the Duboeuf family and Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, one of the leading importers of French wines in the U.S. The Duboeuf name is synonymous with qualité.
