After-E≠ ects TWO EAGER BARTENDERS RECAP WHAT THEY TOOK AWAY FROM TALES by Jenny Adams / photos by Jenn Farrington A Joel Clark has been tending bar for eight years, but this was his fi rst visit to Tales of the Cocktail. 90 / the tasting panel / september 2010 t Tales of the Cocktail 2010, more than 5,804 bottles of liquor were dispensed, more than 9,900 whole lemons squeezed. Those numbers speak not only of product and produce, but also of a larger picture. Despite a hurting economy, attendance at Tales was higher in 2010. Speaking with several bartenders over the fi ve-day festival, there seemed to be many arriving from tertiary markets. The cocktail craze is effectively sweeping the country, far beyond cities like New York and San Francisco, to new enclaves such as Houston and St. Louis. We sat down with two excited bartenders to discuss fresh trends, new spirits and ideas they are taking back home from New Orleans.
