Resident Evil 6 score sees commercial release N EW YORK — Through a licensing deal with Capcom, Sumthing Else Music Works (www.sumthing. com) has released the official soundtrack for Resident Evil 6. The survival horror score is available for digital download from Amazon.com, iTunes, Sumthing.com and other digital music sites. The Resident Evil 6 Original Soundtrack features over two-and-a-half hours of original music. The score was created by a team of composers that included Thomas Parisch and Laurent Ziliani, Daniel Lindholm, and Sebastian Schwartz, as well as Capcom veterans Kota Suzuki (Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4), Akihiko Narita (Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition) and Akiyuki Morimoto (Monster Hunter 3, Lost Planet 2). It was recorded with the Sydney Scoring Orchestra at Trackdown Studios in Australia. Parisch and Zilani orchestrated and supervised the orchestral score recording sessions. The game blends action and survival horror. Three distinct story threads are interwoven, each with their own pair of protagonists for either solo or co-op play, both offline and online. Dell previews mobile workstation, shows 4K display R OBT scores Jesse Owens special B OSTON — OBT Music's (www.obtmusic.com) Tom Phillips contributed to an installment of PBS's American Experience that looks at Olympic legend Jesse Owens and the impact he had on race relations internationally as well as in the United States. Owens went up against Hitler's Aryan supremacy doctrine and proceeded to win four gold medals during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. OTB's Phillips says the program's producer and editor used his library music to temp score the film, and for the rough cut. A few cues worked so well, that they were used in the final project. "The library was an indispensable tool, as it enabled the film's producer to present and construct a cohesive rough [cut] to American Experience," he notes. "Even though everyone knows a rough cut will only be most likely using temp music that may or may not fit, the closer the temp music is to fulfilling the promise of the film, the easier time the executive producers will have in seeing what that vision is. In this case, it made the transition from rough cut to fine cut go smoothly from the start, with everyone on the same page." The concept for the Jesse Owens score was to create themes that defined the man, and themes that could support the times in which he lived. Some of these themes included Owens running, which required pace and motion to capture the fluidity of the athlete; the racial situation in America in the period in which he lived; and Hitler's Germany and the 1936 Berlin Olympics. "I incorporated a Valhalla religious and mythological feeling to the music, and concepts reminiscent of Wagner or Richard Strauss," notes Phillips, who used Avid Pro Tools to record and mix the score. OUND ROCK, TX — At SIGGRAPH, Dell (www.dell.com) previewed a new mobile workstation as well as a 4K monitor, both of which the company plans on delivering later this year.They are calling the M3800 the "thinnest and lightest mobile workstation ever offered." It is less than ¾ of an inch, at 18mm, and weighs 4.5lbs. The unit's 15-inch screen offers 3200-by1800 resolution and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. It is made lighter than previous releases thanks to the use of carbon fiber in its construction, notably on its underside. Dell sees the M3800 as a mid-range release, complementing its existing mobile workstation range, which includes the 15-inch M4700 and 17-inch M6700. Dell also previewed a new 32-inch UltraSharp 4K monitor that offers 3840-by-2160 resolution.
