RESOURCES diseases account for millions of school days lost each year for K-12 public school students in the United States. In fact, nearly 22 million school days are lost each year due to colds alone. Students who are absent miss critical instruction time. Motivating students to strive for better health can result in improved classroom success, school attendance, and healthier lives. That's why the NEA is working with LYSOL® and its other partners to make health and good hygiene more focal through the Healthy Habits Program. As part of the initiative, the partners will celebrate the first-ever Healthy Habits week on September 23. Members of the NEA will also have access to a Healthy Habits toolkit, which features resources appropriate for students of all ages, including ready-to-use lesson plans, a school supply list and materials from the CDC to teach good hygiene practices. LYSOL® will also launch the LYSOL® Healthy Habits TourSM, featuring a bus turned into a science museum on wheels that will visit dozens of schools in the fall and give students an interactive way to learn about health and wellness. Visitors to the LYSOL® Facebook page can enter a contest to win a stop on the Healthy Habits Tour, as well as thousands in grant money for their school. Visit www.lysol.com/healthyhabits for information about the initiative, the toolkit, and the tour contest. P. Buckley Moss Foundation: Grants for Teachers of Children Who Learn Differently P.
