HUMANITARIAN AWARD 2026:
ENVIRONMENTAL MEDIA ASSOCIATION (EMA)
We rolled out the green carpet, courtesy of our HUMANITARIAN
AWARD recipient for making sustainability a standard way of
life on set. The EMA was founded in 1989 on the belief that
environmental stewardship and the power of storytelling can
go hand in hand. Under the leadership of
CEO DEBBIE LEVIN, who
has guided the organization since 2000, EMA has become a
global force inspiring both production and audiences to think
"greener."
Her fearless leadership over the past 25 years has transformed
how we see our role as caretakers of this planet. Levin promoted
Prius with testimonials from actors, athletes and musicians.
She took on wasteful industry habits, like single-sided script
pages, plastic water bottles, and vans and trucks running when
not in use.
She encouraged writers, producers and directors to use "green
messaging" through subtle storytelling, engaging audiences in
environmental issues in thoughtful, compelling ways.
ACTOR and PRODUCER WENDIE MALICK introduced Levin, noting
just how influential the organization has become. "Debbie came
up with a simple way to overhaul decades of bad practices by
creating the global standard for green production: the EMA Green
Seal, a certification program that recognizes and rewards films,
TV shows, and other productions for using sustainable and eco-
friendly production practices. And hats off to the LMGI: Tonight's
show has earned a Green Seal!"
"Thank you so much LMGI!" exclaimed Levin. "I have massive
appreciation for the work that you do in our industry. When we
first created the EMA Green Seal in 2003, location managers along
with line producers worked together to embrace our emerging
sustainable standards. You guys jumped in right away and totally
understood what our vision was and made it a reality. So really …
thank YOU all in this room. The EMA Green Seal has become the
global standard thanks in no small part to the work that you all do."
Through 36 years of advocacy, education, innovation and action,
the EMA has ensured that the stories we tell today do not come
at the expense of the world we hope to leave for tomorrow.
