wherever else they could find
a quiet half-hour and a decent
internet connection.
Producing "Meet the Finalists"
has always been one of my
favorite opportunities to
connect with colleagues from
around the world. Beyond
the commiseration about the
technical complexities of what
we do, these conversations
give the artistic side of
location as a department,
a moment to shine. We get
to hear not simply where
something was filmed, but
why a place was chosen,
what it took to make it work
and how the work of location
professionals helped shape
what ultimately, appeared on
screen.
Changing the format this year
was an experiment, but one
that allowed us to include
more voices, more places and
more of the people behind
this year's nominated work. I'm
grateful to all the finalists who
carved time out of very busy
schedules to speak with us,
to our moderators for helping
bring those conversations to
life, and to everyone behind
the scenes who made this
new incarnation of "Meet the
Finalists" possible.
Most of all, it was a pleasure,
as it always is, to spend
some time hearing from our
colleagues from around the
world, swapping tales from
the trenches and celebrating
the resourcefulness, creativity
and unique perspective that
location professionals bring to
our industry.
