BITS & PIECES LEAP YEAR OPENS NEW BROOKLYN STUDIO BROOKLYN, NY — Leap Year (www.leapyearpost.com) has opened a new post production studio in Brooklyn on the border of Gowanus and Carroll Gardens, with a sweeping view of the New York skyline. The space at 240 Huntington Street is designed to give editors, collaborators and clients a comfortable place to work together in-person, while maintaining the flexibility of realtime remote sessions. Leap Year's fifth-floor space is filled with light and features a dedi- cated edit suite overlooking New York City. There's also a spacious main office, conference room and private space for client calls. "Candidly, the move was sparked by our previous building being sold — a classic New York story," shares Kira MacKnight, MD/EP of Leap Year. "While unexpected, it gave us the opportunity to find a home that feels true to Leap Year and is a step up all around. We're thrilled to be in Gowanus, a neighbor- hood that feels quintessentially Brooklyn and very much like us. There are so many revitalization efforts happening here right now, and the energy is palpa- ble. We can't wait to share this new, inspiring space with our team, our editors and clients alike." Leap Year specializes in offline editorial and works closely with brands, agen- cies and production companies across commercial, branded and entertain- ment projects. Its curated roster includes editors Kauai, Jeff Watterson, Austen Deery, Nico Frank and Jake Oleson. Some of the studio's recent work includes projects for Adidas, Anthropic, Spotify, Expedia, Disney and Nike. BITS & PIECES AVID & FILMLIGHT FORM STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BURLINGTON, MA & LONDON — Avid (www.avid.com) and FilmLight (www.filmlight.ltd.uk) have entered into a stra- tegic partnership to bring a Baselight-powered color experience natively into Avid Media Composer. The agreement represents a step toward a more connected color pipeline that moves beyond traditional plug-in workflows. Avid and FilmLight are focusing on four key areas, the first bringing Baselight-powered color capabilities deeper into the Media Composer experience. The goal is also to create connected path from dailies to delivery in which color decisions are connected throughout production, helping teams move fluidly between editorial, review, grading and fin- ishing. The agreement extends FilmLight's color technology to a broader community represented by Media Composer users. Lastly, the partnership expands online and delivery capabilities by scaling with the needs of each production. "This partnership reflects how our products are actually used: by specialists collaborating to create some of the world's most compelling film and television content," says Rich Camp, Media Composer product manager at Avid. "By bringing FilmLight's expertise deeper into the Media Composer workflow, we're giving editors a native color expe- rience with powerful tools directly in the timeline. That means editors can cut and craft their timeline while working more seamlessly with colorists, so more time and focus stays where it matters most: the story." FilmLight co-founder Steve Chapman adds, "FilmLight has always focused on creating color tools that fit seamlessly into post production workflows. Our collaboration with Avid allows us to combine strengths and deliver new levels of color creativity and accuracy to the editorial experience." BlackRaw Studio (https://black- raw.app) is a free app that brings footage review, color correc- tion and simple video editing to Apple's iPhone. The app can open supported Blackmagic Raw and Apple ProRes Raw formats, alongside ProRes, H.264 and HEVC, allowing filmmakers to work with camera footage and everyday video in the same pock- et workflow.
