www.postmagazine.com 2 POST SEPT/OCT 2026 EDITOR'S NOTE o much of what makes the post production industry great is the knowledge shared through its vast pool of talent. We regularly tap into that resource, leaning on the expertise of professionals in the many different segments of the business to provide insight into the hurdles they may be facing, and many times, the solutions they find to overcome such obstacles. In putting together this issue, I learned so much about many of the different problems post professionals are currently having to deal with. Take "security" for example. On page 21, Trusted Partner Network's Terri Davies details the points where a breach can originate. Risk, she notes, often appears between tools, such as when a file moves between platforms, a temporary transfer method becomes permanent, or a freelancer gets broader access than required. With tight deadlines and complex production systems already in place, a necessary update may be seen as an undesirable interruption, which can ultimately become costly down the road. Her article details the vulnerabilities that can appear when nobody wants to interrupt an edit, render or mix. She also highlights TPN's "Fix It or Risk It" campaign, which provides free, practical guidance and tools to help teams close common security gaps. Tom Coughlin also provides interesting insight into what's going on in the storage industry via a multi-year report he's compiled. Tom has more than 45 years of experience in the data storage industry, holding both engineering and senior management positions. His business, Coughlin Associates, recently published "The 2026 Digital Storage for Media & Entertainment Report," detailing all aspects of storage for professional M&E, and providing projections through 2031 as storage is used in content capture, post production, distribution and ar- chiving. In its entirety, the report spans 195 pages. Post was lucky to have Tom share insight- ful statistics with us through a big-piucture overview on pages 24 and 25. Another industry pro who shares his wealth of knowledge is Marc Franklin, who, in our "Workflow" column, looks at the history of tape media and the once-popular formats and hardware that post heavily relied on in the past. While tape-based media is used consider- ably less today, there are archives of content that often need accessing. He put together his own machine-room of sorts that allows him to playback and transfer media for use in today's workflows. Got tape? Marc can help! Check out his piece on page 26. Of course, there are the creatives too, like director Kevin Macdonald, who spoke with Post contributor Iain Blair about his new film starring Gal Gadot. The Runner was shot — and posted — entirely in London. Macdonald talks about creating a film in which the lead charac- ter is forced to constantly keep moving — not unlike the industry as a whole. He reveals the challenges of making it happen, both practically and technically. You can learn more in our "Director's Chair" column on page 10. Online, we're excited to announce the launch of a completely-new website, which is still located at postmagazine.com. The new site is mobile friendly, allowing you to check out our daily updates easily on your phone or tablet. In addition, we've published several new pod- casts, featuring creatives such as Skywalker Sound Foley artist Shelley Roden, who details her career path, which includes work on Emmy-nominated series and blockbuster films. Mark Vanelow also sits down with Post to talk about his move from stunt coordinator to first-time director. Vanelow has worked with actor Liam Neeson on 30 films in the past, often serving as his stunt double. He took on a new role for The Mongoose and details the chal- lenges of directing a feature with so many high-speed car chases. Visit us online for lots of insight and great conversations.
