When singer Charlie Rogers (Elvis Presley) is fired from his job at a coffee shop, he finds his next gig at a struggling carnival. While his singing starts to turn the show's finances around, his attempted romance with young Cathy leads to friction with her father. Elvis Presley's sixteenth film, John Rich's Roustabout was moderately received at the time of its release but later became a cult classic among Presley fans and movie-lovers alike due to the popular soundtrack album, which reached #1 on the Billboard Album Chart. Starring: Elvis Presley, Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Freeman and Leif Erickson Running Time: 101 minutes • Print Courtesy of Michael Goi and Paramount Pictures The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Directors influenced by John Rich. The Brittney Griner Story Directed by Alex Stapleton — Presented by the Eastern Region Special Projects Committee Documentary Series In 2013, Brittney Griner was selected as the first overall pick in the WNBA draft. In February 2022, the three-time Olympic gold medalist was detained at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport after Russian customs officials alleged they found cannabis oil vape cartridges in her luggage. The media frenzy surrounding her harrowing experience in a Russian penal colony and eventual release as part of a prisoner swap was fueled by speculation and attempts to leverage her narrative to advance political agendas. Alex Stapleton's (Sean Combs: The Reckoning) new documentary, The Brittney Griner Story, gives the floor to Griner and an inner circle of friends and family to tell her journey, her fight for freedom and her work to help other wrongfully detained Americans. Thirty years later, they revisit their film and confront the legacy of this transformative experience. Using archival footage of that class project, Garbage, Gangsters, and Greed, as well as outtakes, diaries and interviews, Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss' (Boys State) new documentary, Teenage Wasteland, weaves a sobering yet buoyant story about fighting the good fight as its own life-changing triumph.
