The Portugal Fam Tour was organized and run by the production service company Ready To Shoot and the Centro de Portugal Film Commission (CPFC). We were given a tour of the central region of Portugal, located inland between Porto in the north and Lisbon in the south. It was striking how many different landscapes we crossed in a very short time—from mountainous valleys to the vine regions along the slopes of the River Douro, to the historic village of Sortelha. Another highlight was the city of Coimbra, with its historic university—something straight out of the Harry Poer universe. The Monastery of Batalha, built in 1386, was breathtakingly beautiful. It is really hard to find places that are so well preserved and yet not overrun by tourists anywhere in Europe. We wrapped up our trip by travelling down the Atlantic coast, famous for its charming fishing and surfing villages. It was amazing to see what this small region manages to encompass: dramatic beaches, picturesque fishing villages, monasteries that are over 600 years old, abandoned and revived villages, wine culture, and, to round it off, some stunning modern architecture. Margarida Adónis, along with the people and institutions she brought together, were all exceptional, and everybody agreed that we need to go back soon." "Portugal has 800 years of history—and it is still one of the film industry's best-kept secrets. Its architectural and landscape diversity allows productions to double for a remarkable range of international locations and historical periods, from medieval to contemporary, oen within the same region. Combined with a genuinely film-friendly culture and one of Europe's most competitive cost structures, Portugal offers producers a 30% cash rebate alongside a cash refund incentive, making it not just a beautiful backdrop but a smart financial decision—especially when working with experienced crews such as PSC Ready to Shoot." -Margarida Adónis/Ready To Shoot, Fam Tour Organizer "With 200 days of sunshine per year, strong infrastructure, hundreds of quality hotels, thousands of restaurants, a wide range of car rental options, and countless filming locations, the Centro de Portugal region is considered the most accessible and production-friendly area outside the major urban centres." -Mariana Calaça Baptista/Film Commissioner, Centro de Portugal Film Commission Images by Markus Bensch/LMGI
