For Members SAG-AFTRA Foundation Launches First Act Series With Summer Soirée O n June 18, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation launched First Act, a new series dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging performers to learn from the artists and creative voices shaping the entertainment industry today. The inaugural event, First Act: Summer Soirée, was hosted by SAG-AFTRA Foundation President & Chairman Courtney B. Vance at the Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists in Los Angeles and brought together actors in the "first act" of their careers for an evening of candid conversation and connection. The panel featured Courtney Taylor (Abbott Elementary), Patrick Ball (The Pitt), Megan Lawless (Obsession), Darrell Britt-Gibson (Euphoria), Caitlin Reilly (Hacks) and Tonatiuh (Kiss of the Spider Woman), moderated by Rochelle Rose, the Foundation's national director of performers programs. Panelists shared honest insights about navigating today's entertainment industry, discussing the challenges of building a career, creating opportunities and staying grounded through perseverance, passion and authenticity. While every path differs, they agreed that resilience, curiosity, education and community remain essential. Following the discussion, guests gathered for a rooftop soirée, where conversations continued, reinforcing the Foundation's belief that successful careers are built through relationships as much as talent.
