36 M PS E . O R G he practice of sound editing has always been collaborative, but the spaces that support that collaboration continue to evolve. As our industry becomes increasingly distributed (across geographies, disciplines, and media), the need for a shared, day-to-day gathering place has become more apparent. You used to be able to walk down the hall to bounce an idea off a follow editor, but those days are not what most of our members experience. A majority of editors work from home and teams are often spread across the country or world. The launch of the MPSE Members-Only Discord server is a response to that need: a dedicated digital environment where sound professionals can connect, exchange ideas, and engage with one another in real time. Extending the MPSE Community For decades, the Motion Picture Sound Editors has fostered professional connection through the annual Golden Reel Awards, screenings, events, and the Wavelength magazine. These platforms remain essential, offering recognition and insight into the craft at its highest level, but I really wanted to find a way to activate collaboration and commadore across our diverse membership. The Discord server extends this work by providing continuity: a space where dialogue does not end when an event concludes, but instead remains accessible and active across time zones and professional contexts.
