10 M PS E . O R G First National Sound Design Competition in Bulgaria Part of the MPSE's mission is to support and uplift sound communities around the world. So when we were invited to participate in NAFTA's (National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts) first-ever sound design competition in honor of the 10th FROM THE MPSE OFFICE Hello, wonderful MPSE members! TRACIE M. COSTABILE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR anniversary of their film and television sound program, we went all in! The competition involved students creating complete soundtracks for the same short film, which were then judged by a panel of sound experts. The focus was on the ability of the students to build narrative, emotion and dramaturgy using sound alone. Importantly, the competition banned the use of AI (artificial intelligence) in any manner. MPSE Board members Korey Pereira, Baylon Fonseca and Christopher Reeves proudly served as judges. Soundies Meeting Soundies GOOD TIMES ARE HAD BY ALL!! If you haven't made it to a Post Sound Hang mixer yet, you're missing out! Since its launch, three mixers have brought together plenty of new faces, along with the growing band of "regulars" who never miss a shindig. Attendance has reached up to as many as 70 people, and the noise floor has been gloriously off the charts— filled with laughter, lively conversations, stories from the craft, reunions with old friends and colleagues, and plenty of new connections. There's nothing better than spending an evening with people who live, work, and love the art of sound.
