LOCAL706.ORG • 45 directors and our DPs, Alejandro Martínez and Paula Huidobro, to create a cohesive and authentic look. Key Make-Up Artist Karla Duenas Cantarell: "The overall visual approach for the series was rooted in realism and a naturalistic "no-make- up look" aesthetic, allowing the environment and characters to feel raw, grounded, and fully immersive. The team's work focused on establishing the visual identity of the Brazilian favela setting while adapting these elements to a production filmed in Mexico City. "Hair design also played a fundamental role in defining the authenticity of the environment. Donald provided extensive research into iconic visual references from Brazilian favelas, with special attention paid to the cultural significance of bleached hair, bold cuts, and statement hair styles as expressions of individuality and identity within the community. Co-key hair artists Claudia Farfan and Corey Bakon executed these looks with color, cut, and maintenance to achieve these distinctive and realistic looks. "The team also oversaw the transformation and continuity of a large number of background performers, incorporating facial hairpieces, tattoos, scars, and subtle character detailing to enhance the density, realism, and layered texture of the favela environment." For our month in Brazil, we were able to engage crew from Sao Paulo and Rio, led by Luiz Gaia, who jumped in and helped us tremendously. We were often shooting three units a day with the main team of myself, Karla, Claudia, and Corey spread very thin. I cannot stress enough how collaborative and hardworking this team was. Everyone was truly a pleasure to work with, and we all enjoyed the cast very much. I know it is often said, but I felt that everyone had each other's back and met the demands of a rigorous and intense schedule. Travel times in Mexico City alone, with 22 million people, made it a challenge in itself. That being said, our department van drivers were extremely accommodating and friendly. Special shout-out to Martin Medina who enjoyed my broken Spanish and got me everywhere, always on time. I believe that the true secret to success working on this project was limited executive oversight which in turn led to more creative freedom and expression. I personally felt this brought forth our best work, with many straight and corrective "barely appearing there" make-ups. On that note, we make-up artists know how much skill is a necessity to create such looks. I used prosthetic pieces made by the make-up designers company I hired. I was introduced to our Mexico City based special effects artist Karina Rodriguez, who was absolutely wonderful in attention to detail, skill, and personality. • Reinaldo Junior as Duda Billie Boullet as Poe Rayburn Alice Braga Man on Fire hair and make-up team
