12 • THE ARTISAN FALL 2026 From Classroom to Set: Make-Up & Hair Masterclass B Y M A R I N A G A L S T Y A N A N D E U G E N E C O N D E Hello fellow artists! We recently had the pleasure of hosting a Make-Up and Hair Masterclass for high school students at Firebaugh High School. We were excited to share our knowledge and experience with the students. The class was created to introduce students to the creative world of film make- up and hair styling while giving them insight into the professional opportunities available in the industry. During the masterclass, we introduced the students to Local 706 and shared valuable information about how to become a professional film make-up artist or hair stylist. We discussed the requirements, the importance of set experience, professionalism, teamwork, and the steps needed to join the union and build a successful career in the entertainment industry. One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was seeing how involved and excited the students were throughout the class. Their passion, creativity, and curiosity about make-up and hair truly made the day special. The students had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about industry techniques, and gain a better understanding of what it takes to work behind the scenes in film and television. It was inspiring to connect with the next generation of artists and creatives. Experiences like this remind us how important it is to educate, encourage, and support young talent who dream of working in the entertainment industry. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our knowledge and passion with such enthusiastic students, and we hope this masterclass inspired them to continue exploring careers in make-up and hair styling for film and television. •
