main hero house was the Hanlon house, and it
was created with a composite two-story stage
build, designed and dressed to be what might
today be referred to as an executive rental. It was
a 1940s house, sparsely dressed with furnishings
and wall coverings from the early 1960s. In the
first episode, contrasts are made between the
interior of the Grogan apartment, set in a poorer
neighborhood, and the very new 1960s house of
Phil Malkin, whose bedroom was decorated with
spaceships and aliens. The set dec team leaned
into their nostalgia and had a lot of fun making
and sourcing some amazing toys for the themed
kids' bedrooms set dressing.
