When he paired with Amazon Prime to produce a more traditional (albeit of unprecedented scale) reality competition show, they opened a collaboration with a multitude of professionals with experience in traditional media, including my Production Design partner Isabella Scannone and I. It has been an exhilarating and often stressful process, trying to marry their creative vision with our knowledge of how to achieve large-scale design challenges. One of the most challenging aspects of the collaboration is that putting together YouTube videos is a more kinetic, freewheeling process than putting together a large-scale TV production, so they are used to shorter runways and more pivots. They gave us only three months. That's how much time we had between our first design meeting and the day contestants moved into the City. Typing that out, it still feels impossible.
