Committee Meetings Roundup
On June 24, the Latino Committee's (LC) meeting featured the discussion,
Rolling in Any Language: Directors on Working in Latin America. During a
conversation moderated by Director Antonio Negret, Directors Diego Velasco
and Joel Novoa spoke on the craft and challenges of leading sets across
languages and cultures and navigating production markets in Latin America.
On working across communication gaps in production, Velasco recalled how
he was able to work with a team that didn't all share the same language and
advised, "Don't let language hold you back."
Novoa revealed that Latin American production ecosystems have a credit they
get from their government once a movie premieres. "And if the movie does well,
they get an extra incentive because they're incentivized to keep the production
pipeline going."

A Latino Committee Discussion
On June 30, the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) meeting featured the
discussion, Spotlight on TV Series Directors.
In a conversation moderated by DGA Alternate Board Member Mary Lou Belli,
National Vice-President Laura Belsey and 2025 DGA Dramatic Series Award-
winning Director Amanda Marsalis discussed the ins and outs of directing
episodic television and their respective career journeys.
During the conversation, Belsey recalled the diffi culties of transitioning out of
traditional network television and described being considered for the show
Preacher for three seasons before landing the penultimate episode of the fourth
season, which changed the trajectory of her career. Marsalis noted the delicate
balance a guest Director has to think about when joining a show and advised
Directors to stay open to learning everything, and not close yourself off.
