4 I D G A M O N T H L Y To address the reduction of employment for career television Directors, we reached an important agreement to preserve valuable directing opportunities for career Directors by providing guardrails on when a person can hold two jobs on the same television series. This supports Directors — both established veterans and those in the pipeline. We also renewed our 2023 AI provisions that were set to expire at the end of the current Agreement — which clearly state that our contractual job duties and those customarily performed by DGA members must continue to be assigned to a person covered by the Agreement, not a computer. Tackling the Growing Threats of AI In addition to renewing our critically important 2023 AI protections, we also secured critical new gains that confirm a Director's control over footage created with Artificial Intelligence. Under the new Agreement, this footage will be treated the same as footage shot on a camera — which has lasting benefits for a Director's economic and creative rights. We also established a new Employer-funded AI skills enhancement program that will help members develop the knowledge necessary to remain competitive and successful in a rapidly evolving landscape. Additional Gains This negotiation also won additional gains for members in every category. This includes wage increases that, when compounded, grow 12% over the life of the term, along with stronger residuals payments. Television Directors will now benefit from a new "Pilot Directed By" credit across the life of a A Message From DGA President Christopher Nolan — cont. photos by Tricia Noble/DGA Staff & Karen Gaviola/ Negotiations Co-Chair series and expanded publicity requirements. Feature Directors will see new protections and compensation for their work in post and prep. We also won important standards for our members working on non-dramatic programs, a commitment to pursue an agreement covering documentaries, and important gains for our ADs, UPMs and SMs. Learn More To help familiarize members with these and other new provisions in a clear and concise format, we have prepared a summary of the Agreements and the full Memorandum of Agreement is available for review on www.dga.org To answer any questions about the new agreement, we scheduled our Annual Meetings in June and gave members the opportunity to ask questions to further understand the details of this agreement during the The DGA and the AMPTP shake hands on a tentative new agreement.
