J U L Y 2 0 2 6 I 3 1 The DGA's Women's Steering Committee (WSC) will be seeking applicants for the newest class of its WSC Squad Mentorship Program. The program, which debuted in July of 2021, pairs mid-career Directors with well-established mentors. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 10. The WSC Squad Mentorship Program will run for six months and aims to create a solid community of working Directors within the DGA's WSC. The program will provide frank guidance and discussions around the unique issues that female Directors face to support and prepare WSC members as they seek to advance their directing careers. This program is for mid-level DGA Directors in the Women's Steering Committee which is defined as the following: [A] is a DGA member; [B] has worked in a professional capacity in the film/television industry for at least five years and; [C] has directed something in the last two years that has been publicly released (i.e. on television/streaming, in a theater and/or in a festival competition). Mid-level career Directors may apply to the WSC Squad Mentorship Program with the following materials: [1] A short reel or clip link of your selected work (no longer than 10 minutes); [2] A bio and/or resume (in a single pdf file) and; [3] A letter of interest that includes why you are interested in the program, what you hope to get out of it, who you are as a person and as a Director, what area/s of directing you are interested in (TV, features, docs, commercials, etc.), what sort of mentor you hope for, and anything else about yourself you think is relevant to your work as a Director. The WSC Squad Mentorship Program leadership team are Directors Jess Brunetto, Karla Braun, Tiffany Frances and Alexis Ostrander. For more information about the WSC Squad Mentorship Program please email WSC@dga.org or visit www.thewscsquad.com/application. WSC Squad Mentorship Program Seeks Applicants Committee News & Visual History Updates Recently, the DGA was made aware that a handful of members received emails advertising the availablity of a Cooke Panchro Classics Lens Set. The emails came from a non-DGA email address but out of an abundance of caution, we want to take this opportunity to raise awareness around the different types of scams and others like it — which are unfortunately becoming increasingly more common. Often, scammers scour social media sites to determine an individual's affiliation to organizations like the DGA and then search the web for their contact information and attempt to impersonate the organization or leaders of the organization to get them to divulge personal data or make purchases on their behalf. When receiving email, it is important to always use common sense, keen observation and healthy skepticism to make informed decisions regarding the validity of messages. Never open attached files unless you were expecting them, or click on web links in an unexpected or suspect email. Remember, email accounts can be stolen or hijacked by malicious users so exercise caution if you notice the following: • Overly vague subject matter or unusual phrasing and/or multiple grammatical and spelling errors. • An email that is missing a subject line or only containing a hyperlink or attachment. • Questions regarding account details or contact information. Spoof emails may appear associated with legitimate websites or contain recognizable names and "phishing" emails can originate from stolen or spoofed email accounts, and "fish" for personal information or security credentials. Legitimate DGA emails will only come from a dga.org email address, and you can call the Guild directly if you receive any suspicious inquiries. For more information on how to recognize and avoid email and text phishing scams please visit the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Advice page: https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-recognize-and-avoid-phishing-scams. Protecting Yourself from Email Scams If you believe you have received a suspicious email from the Guild, please contact the Communications Dept. at 310-289-5333. For a list of practical suggestions for your protection, visit the Email Safety and Cyber Security page in the Additional Resources area of www.dga.org.
