MONKEYING AROUND: John Guillermin finds himself in really big hands behind
the scenes of his monster movie remake, King Kong. The 40-foot tall
animatronic Kong was built by Italian special effect artist Carlo Rambaldi
and weighed over six and half tons.
DEVIL CHILD: Richard Donner preps four-year-old Harvey Spencer Stephens for a scene
in his supernatural horror film The Omen. Over 500 boys auditioned for the role of
Damien and Stephens won the role after Donner encouraged the boys to attack him
during a group audition and Stephens reportedly clawed at Donner's face and kicked
him in the groin.

TYPING TEST: Alan J. Pakula directs Robert Redford as Washington Post reporter Bob
Woodward in the biographical political thriller, All the President's Men. The filmmakers
went to great lengths for accuracy and authenticity, including making replicas of
outdated phone books and nearly 200 desks were purchased from the same firm
that had sold desks to the Post in 1971. All the President's Men earned Pakula a
DGA Award nomination as well as eight Academy Award nominations including Best
Director and Best Picture.
TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN: Martin Ritt directs Woody in the political drama,
The Front. Set against the Hollywood blacklist in the 1950s several people
involved in the making of the film — including Ritt and actors Zero Mostel,
Herschel Bernardi and Lloyd Gough — had been blacklisted.
