EVERGREEN: Director Frank Pierson (right) and star Barbra Streisand look
over the preparations for a scene in the musical drama A Star Is Born.
This remake updates the story from the world of Hollywood fi lmmaking
to the music business and the soundtrack's love theme "Evergreen"

STATION BREAK: DGA Past President Arthur Hiller (center) preps actors Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor for a scene in the comedic thriller Silver Streak. In his
DGA Visual History interview Hiller recalled, "The studio didn't want us to do the [iconic train] crash in Silver Streak because it was gonna cost $250,000,
which was a lot of money. They said, 'Why not just end without it?' I said, 'If we were doing a romance, yes, we could do it. But if you're doing an adventure
yarn, you better give the audience something at the end. It doesn't have to be a train crash, but it has to be something.'"
