D uring his acceptance speech, The Pitt's Noah Wyle recollected how, back in 1990 when he landed his first speaking role in a television miniseries called Blind Faith, he had mistakenly thought he needed to say seven words to get a union card. With one line that was five words long, he spent all morning "scheming on how to stretch that out so I could get my card." In the end, he found out the number of words in the line didn't matter. "But what did matter was getting that card," Wyle said. "This card. Which I've had in my wallet for the last 36 years. I love being an actor. I love actors. Working with you, playing with you, and, when necessary, marching alongside of you has been the greatest joy of my life. I am so grateful for this union and for all the protections and privileges it affords me. And I don't take it for granted. I don't forget the hard-won fights and battles by giants who fought before us, on whose shoulders I and we all stand. I'm so grateful for this. I'm so grateful to the membership of SAG-AFTRA, to the membership of all of our sibling unions, especially our cast and crew, and to labor unions everywhere. Thank you so much." At the ceremony, Wyle also took home an Actor statuette along with his castmates for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
