M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 75 MPSE) was heartened to see what always happens at these events: that the room practically vibrates with positivity and excitement when sound people have the opportunity to mingle, make new connections, reminisce with longtime colleagues, and exchange war stories. When I host these meetups, I like to do the rounds and meet as many guests as I can. As I popped in on groups of folks chatting, I kept having the same experience—I asked how everyone in a circle of conversation all knew each other. and the response was some variation of "We don't! We just met!" Seeing people make new connections like this is what I love about these meetups, and it's a big part of what continues to motivate me to host events for the sound community. The overwhelming positive response to these events in Los Angeles has had an international impact. The momentum from the LA meetups has encouraged us to launch similar Tonebenders Sound Design Meet Ups in Mexico City, Denmark (as part of the Sonic Days Conference), Toronto and London. Somehow we managed to make all that happen in one year! It's my hope that these meetups truly help advance the aims of the Motion Picture Sound Editors, to bring the international sound community together. This is a goal that I share in making the Tonebenders podcast. I want to thank everyone who came out to these events in Los Angeles over the last four years. The support of the community means a lot.
