M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 5 actor William Stanford Davis, famous for his role as Mr. Johnson on Abbott Elementary, in addition to roles in Snowpiercer and Ray Donovan. Stan was effusive in his love and admiration for Mark Mangini, claiming the only "bad thing" he can find to say about him is that he is a Celtics fan. We were incredibly proud to welcome three-time Oscar winner Mike Minkler to our stage to present our three Long Form categories. Mike remembered fondly working with Kathleen Kennedy's husband, Frank Marshall, in the 1970s, saying, "The legacy of Kennedy/Marshall will always be remembered for their immense contributions." Returning for their fourth year to present the Verna Fields Student Award and $5,000 Ethel Crutcher Scholarship for a student film were EIPMA President Bernard Weiser, and co-founder of the Vaughan International Film Festival Antonio Ienco. Both had words of praise and welcome for our student nominees, encouraging them to reach out to established professionals and make connections, highlighting that so much of our industry is based on relationships. All our student nominees were treated to a goodie bag filled with awesome tools from our industry's leaders. Thanks to Todd- AO, McDSP, Sound Particles, Sound Elements, Boom Library, and Soundly for their generous donations. Each student's bag was stuffed with more than $4,000 worth of gifts to get them started off right in their career. Our Non-Theatrical and International Feature categories were presented by Oscar nominee and six- time Golden Reel winner Scott Hecker. The MPSE featured a Q&A with Scott last year for our Back to the Future 40th anniversary screening and we were proud to have him on our stage again. You are a gem, Scott! For our final three Feature categories, the MPSE was delighted to welcome Oscar winner and 17- time nominee Diane Warren. What a thrill to work with such a musical legend! Diane had warm words of love and admiration for her friend Mark Mangini and expressed her admiration for the sound community. Once Patton closed out the show, it was time to party! In addition to all the delectable delights for dinner, including roasted chicken, gnocchi, lentils, Caesar salad, broccolini, and roasted potatoes, we were happy to offer an open bar, including two specialty cocktails. Guests topped off their tummies with one (or more!) of our six incredible desserts. We were happy to offer multiple dinner and dessert choices for our vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free friends. Overseeing the after-party was DJ Albert, who kept the party tunes cranking and kept the dance floor full of happy revelers. If we didn't get to host you this year, we hope to see you next year. The office is already going to work on some more fabulous events this year, so keep an eye on your email for invitations and registration information. As always, I love to hear from my members! If you have an idea, a complaint, a suggestion, or a great pancake recipe, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at Office@mpse.org. Have a wonderful spring! L-R: Longtime friends Sebastian Visconti MPSE, MPSE Executive Director Tracie Costabile Dumm, and Rickley Dumm MPSE.
