M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 9 VAUGHAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL – July 6-9, 2026 The Vaughan International Film Festival (VFF) has pushed its festival dates into July this year. Student film screenings will be held in June, but the EIPMA Student Filmmaker Award will still be given out at the festival gala on July 9. Through the years, the VFF has received submissions of more than 1,900 films from 65+ countries worldwide. Six Oscar- nominated short films have been screened at the VFF. In addition, EIPMA congratulates VFF founding member, Antonio Ienco, who was officially inducted into the Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) Hall of Fame. FEO describes Hall of Fame inductees as leaders who have made lasting contributions to their communities and to the festival and events industry across Ontario. Antonio was recognized as: "A visionary leader whose passion, perseverance, and commitment have transformed the cultural landscape of Vaughan … building a world-class platform that empowers emerging filmmakers and connects global talent with local audiences." From a small grassroots idea to an internationally recognized festival platform, Antonio's dedication to mentorship, community- building, and cultural pride continue to shape the creative future of our city. This honor reflects years of belief in artists, in students, and in what's possible when you build something for community. All of us at EIPMA are incredibly proud of Antonio and the Vaughan International Film Festival which is a member organization of EIPMA. EIPMA wishes to thank the Cinema Audio Society and the Motion Picture Sound Editors for their generous donation of the proceeds from this event to EIPMA. Since EIPMA's founding, the support from CAS & MPSE has been greatly appreciated for our shared goal of support for the next generations of talented filmmakers. On February 28, 2026, EIPMA, in partnership with ACE, CAS, and MPSE, hosted its annual Speed Mentoring Event for the Student Award nominees from each of these organizations. SPEED MENTORING EVENT For the Student Award nominees from ACE - CAS - MPSE mentors and students connect via Zoom video conferencing technology, where individual mentees engage with several mentors on a rotating basis for short, one-on-one conversations about employment opportunities and career strategies. This is a fantastic way for these nominees to gain insight from industry professionals about what lies ahead as they start careers in entertainment. Everyone who has participated in Speed Mentoring really loved it. We have connected with students worldwide and this event had students from China, the Netherlands, England, and across the USA. EIPMA thanks all the wonderful mentors who donated their time to speak with these awesome young filmmakers. COMING UP IN 2026: On May 18, 2026, El Camino High School & EIPMA will host a Livestream Webinar. FOLEY FOR FILM & TELEVISION A Livestream Webinar from El Camino Real High School Sanaa Kelly from Reel Foley will demonstrate live how Foley is recorded and edited. You may know her from her posts on Instagram. Sanaa loves to share her creativity and passion for the craft of Foley. We will show the students how Foley is programed, recorded, and edited live on stage. Our goal is to engage these high school students in this process.
