26 PROP CULTURE I SPRING 2026 to the scene. The surgical tools were compiled from multiple sets of period surgical instruments purchased from a Toronto-based antique medical collector. Though Monaghan spent a lot of time researching the tools and their uses, there was also a fair amount of creative license taken. For the most part, however, the proper instrument was used for the correct action. In total, the body assembly scene was shot over the course of a week and the meticulous level of detail created by both departments should be applauded. While Victor is assembling the body, Harlander is taking photographs of his work using a daguerreotype camera. Geggie worked closely with Mike Robinson, a consultant who has extensively studied daguerreotypes, in order to bring an accurate representation of this vintage art form to life. He loaned the Property Pepartment a camera for reference and they worked with Devil's Workshop to create the body, plates, and parts of the camera. Because there needed to be a burnt version of the camera, as well as an intact version, the lenses had to be sourced individually. After discovering that a periscope lens would work while allowing the camera to function as needed, they worked backward to source the compatible lenses which were primarily found on Etsy. The daguerreotypes themselves went Victor cutting into body parts and experimenting with their movement with all the precise instrumentation was a massive undertaking for both the Property Department and the prosthetics department. Monaghan found a retired physician who was a part of the local historical society and arranged for him to consult on set during these scenes. Often Property Masters are in charge of finding such technicians that can come in and explain certain actions and movements to the cast and the crew in order to make sure there is a level of realism JOHN MORAN, GRAPHIC ARTIST, WITH VICTOR'S MEDICAL BAG THE CAPTAIN AND HIS BLUNDERBUSS DOG HARNESSES L-R: EMMA MONAGHAN AND YASMYN LEE RYAN TESTING THE BALL SIZE WITH THE HAND OF THE TEACHING PUPPET THE MONSTER'S BIBLE EVERETT BIGGAR HOLDS DIANE CABRAL AS SHE ADJUSTS THE RIBCAGE ON THE BODY DOUBLE CREATURE
