www.postmagazine.com 2 POST JAN/FEB 2026 EDITOR'S NOTE his issue comes together at the height of awards season, with so many guilds and organizations announcing their picks for creative excellence, including the Advanced Imaging Society, American Cinema Editors, Association of Motion Picture Sound, American Society of Cinematographers, Cinema Audio Society, Motion Picture Sound Editors and Visual Effects Society. And of course, the Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 15 th , when The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosts the 98 th Annual Academy Awards. Many of this year's nominees are covered in this issue, beginning with Iain Blair's annu- al "Oscar Picks" feature, which begins on page 18. Iain spoke with a number of filmmakers about their work, including director Ryan Coogler, whose horror-thriller Sinners received 16 Oscar nominations, including those for Best Picture and Director. Sinners presented a number of production and post production challenges, with star Michael B. Jordan taking on the roles of twin brothers. In addition to its visual effects needs, the film was shot using a combination of Ultra Panavision 70mm and IMAX 65mm formats by frequent collaborator Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who is also Oscar nominated for her work. Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another is considered a frontrunner for Best Picture and Director, with 13 nominations, just slightly behind Sinners. The feature was cut by Andy Jurgensen — also Oscar nominated — who shares details on his Avid edit and the challenge he faced in dealing with the production's multiple film formats. Separately, I had a chance to take a closer look at a number of nominated films too, starting with our "Cover Story," which looks at filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein and how editor Evan Schiff assembled/cut/pieced/stitched (you get the idea) Frankenstein's different chapters together. Schiff, who served as an assistant editor on del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy II, shares details on his interview for the project, traveling throughout Scotland to keep up with the shoot and its dailies, and some of his favorite scenes. Turn to page 12 for more. On page 14, I catch up with editors Eduardo Serrano and Matheus Farias, who talk about their work with director Kleber Mendonça Filho, whose Brazilian film The Secret Agent received four Oscar nominations, including those for Best Picture, International Feature Film, Casting and Actor in a Leading Role. This film is one of my favorites, as it takes the viewer back to Brazil in 1977, where political unrest simmers below the excitement, color and warmth of Carnival. Viewers really get a sense of the time period and the love Brazilian people have for the cinematic experience. Turning to page 16, I had a chance to chat with veteran re-recording mixer/supervising sound editor Skip Lievsay about his work with director Josh Safdie on his latest film, Marty Supreme. Lievsay, who will be honored by the Cinema Audio Society with its 2026 Career Achievement Award, worked with Safdie in the past on Uncut Gems, and describes Marty Supreme as "both an action film and a documentary." He shares insight into the film's soundtrack, its tight deadline and some of the challenges it presented. Post will share complete lists of the various awards winners on our website as they are announced, so be sure to visit postmagazine.com.
