Moderating that discussion was Daniel Liston Keller, Chair of the AES Los Angeles section, host of the "Insights in Sound" podcast, and Artist Brain Collective co-founder. Walking the floor with Daniel, it became very clear that everyone in the audio community knows and likes him. Former CAS President Karol Urban CAS MPSE moderated a panel as well called, "Immersive Audio for Broadcast Delivery." Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend as I was recording the panel, "Beyond the Rec Button: Telling the Story of Sound," moderated by Julio Monroy of Delta Records from Bogota, Colombia, and interviewing Daniel Keller. (Karol's panel is covered in this section by CAS Associate Kevin Kohr.) The Long Beach Convention Center. Photo: Dan Dugan Bridge Gardiner, studio manager of Marshmallow Skies Studio, sat with Ken Caillat, producer of the Fleetwood Mac album Rumors. Together, they played back the original multi-tracks, isolated different tracks, and discussed how they were conceived and recorded. It wasn't CAS-related but was really cool! I was determined for the CAS to have a booth and was delighted when the conference organizers agreed we should have representation there. Of course, all credit goes to Carol Thomas and Becky Jackson for making it happen, along with setting up and manning the CAS booth in the vendor area. It was a friendly island at a busy conference. Former CAS President Karol Urban CAS MPSE in full panel moderation mode. I got to chat with Chris Mallamaci from Avid, Tony Joy from Sound Particles, Jason Davies from Zynaptiq, Wes Dooley, founder of AEA Ribbon Mics, who always checks to see that I have a lucky $2 bill, and so many more. Gear lust is very real and needs to be kept in check, but it's still cool to see and hear all the new stuff available or coming out. I only walked away with a coffee cup, but it was a big one. Apparently, Schoeps does not give out samples… Then there were the parties. A time to decompress from the convention and just eat and drink with old and new friends. Where else would you get to hang out with Lenise Bent (engineer on Steely Dan's Aja, Blondie's Parallel Lines, and Supertramp's Breakfast in America), John Hart (musician and former CEO of Neve), Rick Allen (sound designer extraordinaire), Julie Tan (AEA Ribbon Mics), Jan Glasband (Equi=tech and theater impresario), and I even got to take Mr. Bonzai's picture! After four days, though, I was ready to head home. Next Sunday … The Sounding Board v5.0! I'm going to need some comfortable shoes… AES International President Gary Gottlieb CAS's booth in the vendor area
